The CULTOS Ontology - Implementation of the Knowledge Model of Intertextual Studiesby Sabine Stoye, Motti Benari, Wernher BehrendtTable of Contents and Executive SummaryIn this document, we present the CULTOS knowledge model emphasizing the implementational aspects. The document should be seen in conjunction with "Knowledge Model of Intertextual Studies" which introduced the major concepts of the ontology of intertextual studies, in the form of a paper model. 1 MODELING APPROACHThe first section will deal with our modeling approach, taking into account existing representation formalisms (conceptual graphs, description logics, and semantic networks) from logic-based and semiformal to informal approaches and positioning our model by comparison with the various other models. 2 MODELING ISSUES: CONCEPTS, RELATIONS, ATTRIBUTES AND VALUESSection 2 presents the CULTOS ontology starting from a listing of all concepts and their attributes on one hand, and a listing of the relations hierarchy on the other hand. The listing is not as yet annotated. One of the tasks for the final version of the CULTOS ontology will be to add a guide that defines the practicalities of using the ontology, i.e. when to use which concepts, and how to analyse material before deciding how it should be classified. 3 FURTHER WORKFinally, section 3 considers the issues of verification and validation, i.e. transforming the initial CULTOS ontology into a more formalized model (in fact, semi-formal at most) in the course of the next three to six months of the project. 4 GLOSSARY OF K-INFINITY5 REFERENCES»» Slideshow on the Ontology and Knowlege Model »» Contact CULTOS office |
